Digitally shaping the future of energy

EWE: strategic partner for start-ups

Headquartered in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, EWE has been active in the business areas of energy, telecommunications and information technology for decades. EWE is one of the largest energy companies in Germany and takes a pioneering role in climate protection and digital transformation.

EWE believes that renewable energies and smart grids play a central role in the energy system of the future. In addition to new internal solutions and innovations, a climate-neutral, efficient and flexible energy supply also requires partnerships and ecosystems. To this end, EWE specifically invests in start-ups, as they want to create an innovative environment to jointly shape the digitalized energy industry’s future and make their customers’ everyday lives a little easier and more convenient.

Investments in start-ups are not a one-way street
As a corporate venture capitalist, EWE is on the lookout for new perspectives. Start-ups can rely on a solid and experienced partner with businesses in energy, telecommunications, mobility and IT, that is active in various industries. As pioneers and drivers of the digitized Energy Transition, EWE is aware of their great responsibility, and want to play an active role in shaping the energy future together.

Digital business models for smart grids, climate-friendly mobility and green solutions
EWE is looking for innovative partners in four fields: data science, mobility, smart grids and sustainable neighborhood solutions. These include data-based, digital business models with which we can drive renewable energies. The increasingly decentralized energy industry needs solutions for grid control and grid planning. Grids, as one of our core businesses, must become intelligent. EWE contributes their services to sustainable neighborhoods that combine renewable energy supply with high-performance telecommunications and electromobility.

In recent years, EWE has sharpened their profile as a corporate venture capitalist through various investments – whether rental models for solar systems, local load balancing, AI-based control of renewable energy systems or smart metering. But they know the other side too. The EWE Digital Factory develops digital, user-centric business models for the internal as well as external market to drive EWE’s digital transformation.

As an investor, innovator and strategic partner, EWE is looking for further start-ups that want to grow and tackle the topics of climate protection and digitalization together.
