Description

Sunwafe was founded in 2024 by InnoEnergy with the aim of addressing a critical gap in the rebirth and buildout of Europe’s solar industry. In short, Sunwafe’s mission is to become Europe’s first industrial scale producer and leading supplier of silicon wafers for solar cells, serving market demand both within the EU and in other regions of the world, including North America. Once operating at full capacity, by 2030, Sunwafe will produce 2.5 billion wafers per year, equivalent to 20 GW of implied power or 60% of the annual solar deployment target set by the Net Zero Industrial Act. The company has secured land rights for a 30-hectare site in Asturias and a € 200 million grant from the central government of Spain (IDAE, RENOVAL Program). Sunwafe is engaged with several key players in the global solar industry, including OEMs and strategic suppliers, with the aim of starting production in early 2029.
