Sunwafe was founded in 2024 by InnoEnergy with the aim of addressing a critical gap in the rebirth and buildout of Europe’s solar industry. Sunwafe’s mission is to become Europe’s first industrial scale producer and leading supplier of silicon wafers for solar cells, serving market demand both within the EU and in other regions of the world, including North America. By 2030 the company expects to begin commercial operations at its 30-hectare site in the Asturias region, reaching an annual output of 2.5 billion wafers per year by 2032, equivalent to 20 GW of implied power or 60% of Europe's annual solar deployment target set by the Net Zero Industrial Act. Sunwafe has also secured a € 200 million grant from the central government of Spain (IDAE, RENOVAL Program) and is currently engaged with key players in the global solar industry, including prospect customers, OEMs and strategic suppliers.
